Holland DSM as The World's Largest Melamine Producer

Since the milk incident occured several weeks ago, China and the world was surprised and the hottest topic in the media seem to be about "melamine" - a kind of chemical products, which is a word that seldom anybody out of the chemical industry heard of before.

It's a coincidence that my best friend is working in Holland DSM company in Nanjing and he told me that DSM is the largest melamine producer (全球最大三聚氰胺生产商) with a capacity of 225000 t/a in the world.

About Melamine (三聚氰胺)

Melamine is a white powder with unique properties - the chemical compound melamine (triamino-triazine - C3N6H6), consisting of carbon, nitrogen and hydrogen.
The German scientist Justus von Liebig first synthesized a compound in the 1830s and called it melamine. Commercial interest and synthesis of the compound started in 1937. Nowadays melamine is an important starting material for the production of synthetic thermosetting products worldwide. Melamine is often used as a brand name.
